What is compound interest?

Compound interest is when your returns start earning returns too. Interest is added not only to the money you put in, but also to the interest already earned. Over time the growth accelerates — that's the "snowball effect".

Why time beats the amount

The longer your money works, the stronger the effect. So the key is to start early and contribute regularly, even small amounts. The difference between 10 and 30 years is not 3×, it's far more.
