What is rebalancing?
Over time some assets grow faster than others, and the shares in your portfolio drift away from what you intended. Rebalancing puts them back. That way the portfolio's risk stays the one you chose, not the one that happened by itself.
How to rebalance
With new contributions. The simplest way: send each contribution to whatever is below target. Nothing needs to be sold.
By selling and buying. Faster, but there may be taxes and fees. Once a year is usually enough.
By threshold. Do nothing until the gap exceeds, say, 5 percentage points.
